DARIEN, IL — Darien saw another small increase in new coronavirus cases last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The recent numbers are considerably down from August. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 2,032 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 14 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 16 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 25. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. The figure compares to 102 in La Grange Park, 107 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 110 in Elmhurst, 115 in Clarendon Hills, 116 in Western Springs, 117 in suburban Cook County, 119 in Burr Ridge and 136 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,680,908, a 0.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,407. Nationally, 45.3 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 733,834 people have died from the virus in the United States.
