Bacteria discovered in Better Homes & Gardens Lavender & Chamomile Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones, made in India and sold by Walmart online and in some stores, has been linked to the melioidosis deaths of at least four people in different states, including Georgia. A recall for the lavender and chamomile room spray and five other scents in the same product line has been issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Walmart. It is still unknown if other scents and brands pose a risk, according to the CDC. (WSB Atlanta)After a car went over a bridge in northwest Atlanta early Thursday, an Atlanta police officer helped save the driver's life by crashing his patrol car through a locked gate. Officer Jimmy Cenescar responded to a call of a car that went over – then under – a bridge stretching across the Norfolk Southern-Inman rail yard as well as the CSX Transportation REDI Center. Finding a locked gate blocking the gravel driveway leading to the accident site, Cenescar got permission from a supervisor to ram the barrier. "I had to take action quickly to get that driver out of the vehicle because I knew under that bridge was a train track," Cenescar said in a video released by APD Friday. The driver, Kenneth William, was cited for driving with a suspended license and speeding and transported to an area hospital in serious, but stable, condition with a broken arm, concussion and a facial laceration. According to a new Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll, 24 percent of likely voters say they support City Council President Felicia Moore. Twenty percent are backing former Mayor Kasim Reed, and 41 percent of voters are still undecided. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. This is a two-person race even though there are 14 candidates, said Bill Crane, Channel 2 political analyst. Early voting began last week for the Nov. 2 election, and - if no one gets more than 50 percent of the vote - a runoff between the top two candidates is set for Nov. 30. (WSB Atlanta)The Atlanta Hawks opened their season Thursday night at State Farm Arena against the Dallas Mavericks, winning 113-87. And a new mural in East Atlanta dedicated by the Hawks is designed to build on those winning ways, which Atlanta demonstrated last season by claiming the Southeast Division title and appearing in the Eastern Conference Finals. The mural is "very colorful, it's abstract, the same way Atlanta is," said local artist Muhammad Yungai, who was commissioned for the work. "It's always flowing, always moving, always busy."
