Description

Last time I found a band, a friend exclaimed “wow, I didn’t know craigslist ads still worked!” That was two years ago Do they still?? Let’s find out! I’ve been playing for about 17 years (I just turned 30), and consider myself a professional, whatever that means. I have reliable, good-sounding gear, a reliable car, practice space, a stable living situation, no disruptive habits, no looming court dates, all that good stuff. I’m self-employed with a flexible schedule, so I have plenty of time to dedicate to the right project. I think I’m beyond trying to “make it”, really I just want a band that lasts more than 6 months, and doesn’t have to try out new members every 3 weeks. I’ve taught off and on for years, played classic rock and Motown covers, and original reggae/rock, music-nerd rock, and sad-girl rock. I’ve played with jazz cats before and can barely keep up, not really looking to go down that road again right now. I planned to be a rock star when I grew up, so I cut my teeth on Van Halen, Satriani, Vai, etc. I studied classical theory for a couple years in college until I couldn’t stand playing voice-leading exercises on piano anymore. I’m not necessarily looking to play super chop-heavy music; I’m happiest making music that’s enjoyable for musicians and listeners alike. I enjoy a fairly diverse range of music, some of my favorite artists are Steely Dan, Fiona Apple, Minus The Bear, Courtney Barnett, Iron Maiden, Toto, and Vulfpeck. I rarely get into anything heavier than Megadeth or mellower than Astrud Gilberto. I write a little bit on my own, and have plenty of half-finished song ideas to play around with, but I really write best with others. I would love to find a few people to flesh out ideas with, and record them. I’ve played in so many bands, but somehow have no decent recordings of any of them. I’d like to change that, so hopefully you have a bunch of half-finished ideas too, and we can create a monster. I’m just as happy to join a band as start one, as long as there’s space for me to write and get creative—basically, I just don’t want to play the last guitarist’s parts note for note, or be a backup musician. The last couple bands I was in were trios, and that was really fun, but I’m open to anything. I can sing a bit, harmonies too, though I’m out of practice (baritone, limited range). Shoot me an email and I’ll rustle up some recordings of my playing, and we can go from there! Really just looking to play with vaccinated folks right now (besides, if you’re not vaccinated at this point we probably wouldn’t get along all that well anyway)
