A Dozen Considerations

Description

Todays politicians, and their ‘peeps’, are so good at spinning their words, it’s hard to figure out what anyone stands for. We know the media spins most everything. We see one partisan TV network is all happy-happy-joy-joy at a favored candidate’s spin. But at a rival network everyones heads are exploding. Next day the roles are reversed. What to do? Who gets your vote? Maybe the following 12 questions can help (maybe not). Try to notice how the various politicians react when someone zaps an exposed nerve. 1. Do they attack criticisms from an opposing party? What about criticisms from their own party? 2. Do they ignore uncomfortable questions from a friendly press? What about an unfriendly press? 3. Do they respect the leaders of our allies? Do they flatter the leaders of our enemies? 4. Do they start fights they easily can avoid? Do they avoid issues thar need to be discussed? Decide if past histories of all the candidates words and actions are ethical. If not, is it likely they’ll change for the better (or worse)? 5. Do they put their own political or financial interests first (How dya spell neputizm)? 6. When accused of bad activities do they ignore those accusations? 7. Do they hide the records of possible misdeeds? Their attitudes should fit with the histories of people you may admire. 8. Would the writers of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution hang with ‘em? 9. Do they compare with more recent American heroes (Senator John McCain, Representative Davy Crockett)? What are their personal goals (Maybe the most important consideration)? 10. Do they look to improve America (economy, environment, health, infrastructure, military, society)? 11. Do they look to further the political goals of their party (at the expense or a rival party)? 12. Do they look to improve their own power, reputation, or wealth?
