Cleaning recommendation needed

I want a cleaning person to come and clean my house but I had one company come in and they said I'd have to clean before they would come in to clean. I've never had a house cleaner before and had heard of such things but I thought it was a joke! Are there any cleaning services that will let me leave the clutter on my counters? The trash and dirty clothes in my kids' rooms? Pick it up or clean around it? I don't want to clean before I pay someone to clean.
