Help for anxious dog

Hi I'm in desperate situation. My dog is about 7yrs old and has developed stress colitis due to anxiety separation. He's a Chihuahua so naturally quite anxious but never this extreme where he'll get diarrhea. He started in case of anything metronidazole. He eat and plays so nothing out of the ordinary. I do leave very quiet and leave the TV on, toys and snacks. I'll leave for 1-2 hrs so its not much time anyways. Any advice could be great for me since he's my little boy plus my esa. Also should I get another pet to keep him company? If so which could help him best? Thanks!!!
