It's finally here!! Canvas Connections first art retreat. Indulge and renew your spirit in this magnificent setting creating fabric art. This sensory art journey will be a celebration of the vitality and perserverence of Black women! A self care indulgence, our goal is spirit renewal where you can relax and create art in the quiet, lush magnificence of a Seattle oasis, Cedarbrook Lodge. All we ask is that you be prepared for 5 hrs. of uninterrupted sensory activity with sound, light, story, color and creative expression through art making. We ask that you bring a 5 x 7 copy of a photo of yourself and fabric scissors. Come with a friend, or come solo. We will begin this journey by meeting in the restaurant at 1 pm sharply for a light meal - that you will cover - and then off to a splendid room in the lodge for art making. We are offering a 50% discount, as well as a chance to win a Mud cloth or Ankara fabric designed wall or table decor frame. Celebration is in order for Canvas Connection's first art retreat launch!! I look forward to being your guide in this dynamic sensory experience. Let's make connections together: Sunday, December 5th from 1 pm - 6pm. Space is very limited, therefore I recommend that you purchase your ticket by Saturday, October 30th. You will be notified that you are registered, and when space is unavailable. Proof of vacination is required, and we ask that participants wear masks Partial proceeds of our Canvas Connections Retreat events will go to the: Linda M. Upshaw Foundation for High Achieving Black Girls in the Fields of Visual and Performing Arts A walk through as you wonder.......... Ms. Linda has been creating multi-media works for education settings for a very long time. She is a classically trained pianist, and studied graphic design at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York city then returning to her home in Seattle, she completed a BA in media design and performance and decided to enter the teacher training program at Seattle University. She earned a teaching certificate as well as a Master's In Teaching  from Seattle University. With many years experience and training under her belt, she decided to combine her training and experiences, incorporating them into exciting painting and educational adventures.  Self growth and reflection are important elements to the work that she does, and she provides numerous opportunities for students to explore their passions.  As a youth growing up in Seattle and enjoying performance, she had 2 mentors, through the Central Area Motivation Program who exposed her to the process of creating - "Lightscapes", projected light - which combines poetry, music, dance and art.  It is very exciting to be able to draw on such a vast array of treasures from her youth as a means to create excitement in expressive learning.
