CLASSROOM DRIVER EDUCATION & TRAINING PROGRAMS
Classroom Driver Education Programs are available statewide to juvenile, adult and out-of-school youths. Both public and private school programs follow the same course content and are approved by the Virginia Department of Education. Additionally, all Driver Training Schools and are licensed by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
Classroom Driver Education Program Providers must present 36 classroom periods, which are 50 minutes in length. Subject matter includes components about
Alcohol Safety,
Drug Abuse Awareness,
Aggressive Driving,
Distracted Driving,
Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety,
Handicapped Parking,
Fuel-Efficient Driving Practices
Motorcycle Awareness,
Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness.
The course must be taken at a public (Department of Education) or private (commercial) Driver Training School, unless you are home-schooled. Students will receive a Driver Education Completion Certificate when they successfully complete a Driver Education Program. The Driver Education Certificate Of Completion is considered part of the driver's license application.
