The Ungroup Society's 8 week continuing series of Afro/Latino(a) classes with Fulbright Scholar Daisha Brabham
Discovering a Black Utopia. Students will be asked to ponder the central question: What has the meaning of Black Utopia meant throughout history? Throughout their study of the central questions, students will study different freedom movements from the post-colonial period to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The 8 week unit will be interdisciplinary involving an analysis of primary and secondary sources as well as key literary pieces. The course will focus on different parts of the diaspora with the aim that students will be able to place the African American/Latinx Experience within a larger global context. I also plan to incorporate materials from different archives including the Black Cultural Archives in London.
