An evening of Premieres, all commissioned by "arx duo" for keyboard percussion instruments featuring romantic harmonies and structures with
Featuring 4 new works all written within the last year by Juri Seo, Angelique Poteat, Robert Honstein, and Kansas City's own Angie Chan.
Come here new works take on old forms, sometime virtuosic, sometimes contemplative. Robert Honsteins "Evergreen" is a reflection on the experience of COVID-19 in relation to the Equinox and a full year. Some movements are bright with sunlight and running arpeggios, while others are like the night sky full of stars and space, resonance and sustain. Juri Seo and Angeliques pieces will be completed in October of 2021, and first heard at 1900 Building! All pieces coinciding with an album release of brand new keyboard works, commissioned by the duo, for a Spring 2022 release.
Angie Chan is a pianist and composer born in Costa Rica. In 2009 she received a scholarship to further her piano studies with Dr. Donna Lee at Kent State University. At Ball State University she had the opportunity to study with composers Dr. Jody Nagel, Dr. Derek Johnson and Dr. Eleanor Trawick. As a resident of Kansas City she is excited about immersing in the music scene and expanding her music career in performance, composition and teaching. We began working with Angie on a new percussion duo a few years ago, to premiere in Kansas City, and are finally bringing it to town!
The 1900 Building is the finest office/mixed use building in the Kansas City area. The location (Shawnee Mission Parkway & State Line Rd.) and views are superb. The iconic 1960's gem has recently been restored and expanded to include state of the art performance, conference and event spaces, a cafe/restaurant, roof terrace and LEED Gold certification.
