Hard to know the problems from just your description. However, if I were you, I would not attemp "ALL" the instruments.
Try starting over with the same song in a whole new project. Record just 1 (ONE) instrument, Piano or guitar as accompaniment or "COMP" and keep it really, really simple, because you can change it later. If you're good with it, now record the Bass and Drums. Don't rush. Don't be in a hurry to screw it up. If you're good with that, do a vocal track. Just mix for balance, DO NOT ADD EFFECTS OR ANYTHING YET. Put a little reverb through your master bus and try and get your sound as close to a live stage recording as possible. In other words, your doing it live in front of an audience. When you get that sound, you can then go back and adjust whatever you feel it all needs to make a "Studio worthy" Radio ready song; Effects, FX Track(s), Group Tracks, Automation whatever... If you think it's a hit song, stop when you get your vocal track, take it to a professional studio and have them arrange it, and master it. You can attempt to do it all, truth is, no one is that good. If you've got a hit, INVEST IN YOURSELF and just get er done right with pro musicians, and mastering engineer.
HAVE FUN!
