Aides Who Cook and/or Massage With Love

Jobs

San Jose CA

Description

Let me start with a clarification: I am NOT looking for erotic massage, just rubbing sore areas and applying lotions, etc. If you meet the qualifications below and all you want to do is cook (including meal planning with me, prep, and clean up) I’d love to have you work for me 15 hrs/week or so. If you can give kind massages (currently hands, arms, scapular area of back need attention, but it changes) and you are up for any of the other tasks listed, please do apply. At this point, I also especially need someone to help with computer/smartphone and occasional fix-it projects. Hours will be decided based on how our schedules work out and what skills you bring to the position. THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS BECOMING A LIVE-IN POSITION. I am a feminist elder with dynamic disabilities and talents. (I’m a published writer/photographer.) I live with my disabled partner and cute cat (who will definitely engage with you) in the Cambrian area of San Jose. I love social justice, laughter, and being in nature. I have over 35 years of experience hiring, training, and working with my aides. Please consider joining my team of caregivers and help me bring additional order and beauty into my life so I can more effectively manage tasks of daily living and pursue my political and creative endeavors. This is a job that is different every day and provides the opportunity to learn about disabilities. You will know that your work is greatly valued and directly helps two humans and one cat. A car is not required if you are only going to do the in-home tasks. Please read this ad carefully so you can know if it seems like it would work for you. Tasks include: Vegetarian cooking in my home Massage Help with Android smartphone and Mac computer Filing paperwork Occasional personal care Careful housework (I will provide cleaning products) Errands Shopping Assistance with fitness, including going for walks with me Driving me to appointments in your car Occasional fix-it projects around the house Qualifications: Non-smoking and fragrance-free (see below) Ability to follow written and verbal directions Fluent in English Experience with vegetarian/natural foods cooking, including adapting recipes. (If you're a great cook, you'll be able to adapt recipes. No requirement for you to be vegetarian.) Must pass live-scan fingerprint (one time) as part of registration. 16 years or older What does Fragrance-Free mean? I am disabled by Multiple Chemical Sensitivities Syndrome. I become ill if I'm around scented products, tobacco and marijuana smoke, etc. If you work for me, this means no scents (chemical or ‘natural’) in any personal care or laundry products you use. (Please read labels.) No dryer sheets. Please understand that showing up for the job fragrance-free is a need, not a want. Hours are flexible and range from 7-20 a week, depending on the skills you bring, and how our schedules mesh. I’m especially needing someone available Sat., Sun, Mon., Tues. No early mornings or late nights. Pay, determined by the county, is $15.61/hr gross. Raises are supposed to be rolling out beginning Jan 1. Health care, including dental, vision, and therapy, and other benefits are available. I reimburse for mileage, 56 cents a mile (for driving you do on my behalf, not your commute to work.) This is a great job for the right person: someone positive, reliable, honest, hard-working, well-organized, conscientious, and kind. (A sense of humor couldn’t hurt.) If that is you, please send me an email telling me about your suitability and skills for the position. If you can do some but not all the tasks on the above list, go ahead and apply, I’m open to hiring two more people. Include your phone number, references, and good times to call you. And answer these questions, please: 1. What times are you available? Will your schedule change in the foreseeable future? 2. Do you have any problem using fragrance-free products exclusively when you work for me? 3. Which of the skills listed above are ones where you shine? 4. What experience do you have which is relevant to this job? 5. What drew you to apply for this job in particular? 6. Are you interested in the live-in option? I look forward to your emails. Peace, Barbara
