We all know Walgreens is closing five stores in San Francisco. That isn't news. They say the rationale is "organized shoplifting" gangs. That isn't news either. But I read today city "officials, experts and data" question the reasoning of Walgreens statements. That is news as of today.
Regarding the data, since San Francisco policy is to no longer consider shoplifting a crime, then police are no longer responding to calls from merchants victimized by shoplifting and no theft report is taken. So it makes sense the data would not reflect the crime if the police did not take a report, right?
And as for the city "officials and experts", is it not in their interests to look at everything through rose tainted glasses?
Just saying
