NORTHWOOD, NH — Firefighters from 10 communities were sent to Northwood to assist firefighters with a manufactured home fire. The first call came into the Capital Area Mutual Aid Fire Compact around 1:45 p.m. Along with Northwood, firefighters and EMTs from Concord Canterbury, Epsom, Lee, Strafford, and Pittsfield were all sent first. The first caller to report the fire said she did not believe the resident was home because his truck was not in the driveway. Neighbors also evacuated from their manufactured homes in case the fire spread. The first arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke showing from the roof of the building, according to dispatch. About five minutes later, Northwood command requested a second alarm. That sent firefighters from Barnstead, Chichester, Deerfield, and Nottingham to Northwood. Command requested power be shut off to the area around 2:15 p.m. He also reported the fire had spread to a second manufactured home but firefighters had extinguished that fire quickly.
