Press release from the Westchester County Government: October 21, 2021 Westchester County Executive George Latimer applauds the passage of the Climate Emergency Declaration by the Westchester County Board of Legislators. The declaration was passed unanimously by the Board. Latimer said: "It is important to act now, to make changes, in order to avoid catastrophic climate change. Together, we will continue to scale up Westchester's green infrastructure. Our Climate Crisis Task Force is already in place. This legislation will allow us to continue the important work of preserving this County for generations to come." Director of Energy Conservation and Sustainability Peter McCartt said: "The disastrous and deadly impact of climate change is an issue County Executive Latimer took on immediately, when taking office. Creating and sponsoring this declaration of a climate emergency is another tool by this administration to make residents, institutions, businesses and employees further aware that this is real and we all need to do our part during this crisis." The County Executive, McCartt and the Westchester Climate Crisis Task Force will work with Westchester's 41 municipalities to examine the local implications of the climate crisis and identify additional steps to mitigate the impact.
