Become a better woodworker by properly sharpening your dull bench chisels and other tools
Ric Day will teach a 3-hour class on sharpening, a necessary skill for woodworkers of any level. Chisels are not sharp out of the box and require sharpening for a safe woodworking tool. In this session you will learn how to sharpen a bench chisel, and the process and technique can be applied to any edge tool. You will focus on hollow grinding and finishing with honing to a keen edge.
Bring one chisel; if you have none one can be provided to you.
Materials list (optional):
3/4 inch or 1 inch bench chisel. (Rockler less than $20)
1000/6000 grit water stone (Home Depot $32)
Bio: I am a retired physician and lifelong woodworker as an avocation. I have made tables, desks, Windsor chairs, and utilitarian items such as bowls, spoons and cutting boards. In my classes I hope the participant finds a passion, fun and creativity to continue their woodworking journey. My studies include classes with Phil Lowe, Allan Breed and many other talented woodworkers in Maine and New Hampshire.
