Reporting to the Fabrication Manager, Lead Carpenters are responsible for managing teams of carpenters for the fabrication, installation, and handling of custom projects. Lead Carpenters will work closely with the Fabrication Manager and Project Managers to ensure they meet the established quality standards and timelines of all projects. They must have knowledge of fabrication specific to special events, staging, theater and retail displays, ability to interpret blueprints and experience leading a crew. Duties include, but are not limited to: -Managing builds and delegating tasks amongst a team of carpenters -Overseeing the construction, transportation and installation of Scenic builds -Managing and coordinating the integration of Technology, Automation, Lighting and Electronics into builds -Coordinating with other Department Leads to establish Build plans that maximize efficient work flow of projects -Operating in the fabrication department under the direction of the Fabrication Manager. -Working from drawings to verify dimensions and build with attention to detail and quality -Maintaining best practices and sound fabrication techniques -Optimizing material efficiency through Accurate take-offs and reducing consumption/loss through best inventory usage practices -Managing workload and physical space to highest efficiency -Oversee labor through every phase of a Project Lifecycle. -Effectively communicating, both orally and in writing while remaining professional at all times -Ensuring proper safety practices are followed, personal protective equipment is worn at all times, and that a Clean, safe and efficient work space is maintained The ideal candidate will have: -5+ years experience in carpentry inclusive of 3+ years experience in scenic (or related) carpentry. -Extensive knowledge of stationary and hand-held power tools including table saw, routers and typical rotary and circular bit/blade tools -Ability to oversee and direct crews of carpenters, A/V techs, welders and scenics to coalesce a harmonious work environment -Possession of basic hand tools and reliable transportation to job sites -Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary to deliver the project on time -Willingness to travel on projects for out of town installs -Ability to use ladders and carry at least 80 pounds -Knowledge of building materials pertinent to industry standards, focused on sheet goods made of wood, laminate and plastics
