This two day workshop, presented by Todd Bigelow, provides practical, relevant information for your freelance photography career. The Business of Photography Workshop is a two day workshop geared toward photographers with an interest in a career producing images for editorial, nonprofit and corporate clients. It provides practical, relevant and timely advice and information on the many business issues that freelancers contend with on a daily basis and provides the student with knowledge to help manage a freelance career. The profession, especially photojournalism, has clearly shifted the employment standard from employee based to freelance based. As a result, it is now more imperative than ever for independent photographers to possess a solid understanding of managing their own business if they expect to support themselves and/or their family. He contributed to two team Pulitzer Prizes while at the Los Angeles Times for coverage of the Los Angeles Riots and the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. Portions of his long-term project documenting immigration have been exhibited worldwide with images residing in the permanent collection at the California Museum of Photography. His workshop, The Business of Photography Workshop, is offered by leading universities and professional photography organizations around the country. He is the author of The Freelance Photographer’s Guide To Success: Business Essentials, published by Routledge in 2021.Todd was the recipient of the 2019 Clifton Edom Award by the National Press Photographer Association for his work inspiring and motivating others in the profession to reach new heights. He also works as an Adjunct Professor of Photography and Photojournalism at California State University, Northridge where he was the 2017 recipient of the Excellence In Service To Students award issued by the university for his commitment to helping his students.
