We are hosting a tree planting event at the Richmond Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). We are hosting a tree planting event at the Richmond Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). We are partnering with the MRF because UC Berkeley hauls our landfill, composting and recycling to this location . Haas has committed to planting 400 trees over the next academic year to achieve the following goals:Educate, create awareness, and take responsibility for the effects that our materials have on these communities, including more air and water pollution, higher health issues, more carbon in the atmosphere, etc. In 2019 Haas printed over 400 million pages of paper and we need to plant 400 trees to offset our printingPlanting trees is essential to help sequester carbon, increase canopies, increase communities' positive public health indicators, create shade to cool, and support biodiversity - all essential for a healthy planet and communityEngage staff, faculty and students in these projects that make a positive impact and grow partnership for further engagements. Location: Republic Services - Richmond Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), 101 Pittsburg Ave, Richmond, CA 94801 Date: Sunday, December 5, 2021 Arrival: 10:30am Volunteer Time: 11:00-1pm Goal: Plant 70 Redwood trees Thank you to our planting partners: The Berkeley Haas Sustainability Task Force focuses on sustainability initiatives in partnership with Berkeley Haas leadership and the greater UC Berkeley community.  The Task Force is made up of students, staff, and faculty who are passionate about making a difference in their community.  Our members volunteer their time towards a two-fold mission: 1) to assist Berkeley Haas in becoming a model of sustainable operations, and 2) to inspire its staff, students, and faculty to incorporate green practices into their offices, homes, and communities.
