TAMPA, FL — A 15-year-old teen is facing manslaughter charges after being accused of shooting a 15-year-old girl in the leg. The girl later died of complications from the gunshot wound.
At 1:27 a.m. Oct. 15, Tampa police were called to the 3600 block of North 22nd Street for a shooting.
There, they found the 15-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the leg. The girl told police that her friend, a 15-year-old boy, shot her and then fled the scene. Several witnesses corroborated the girl's statement.
She was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released. The following day, she was taken back to the hospital due to complications from the gunshot wound, and she died Oct. 18.
Following the shooting, police issued a warrant for 15-year-old boy's arrest, and he turned himself in to police the following day. He was still in custody at the Juvenile Assessment Center on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon and minor in possession of a firearm when the girl died.
On Friday, he was charged with manslaughter with a weapon.
