SANTA FE, NM — A cinematographer is dead and a director is injured after actor Alec Baldwin, a Long Island native, discharged a prop firearm on a movie set in New Mexico, authorities say.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office said director of photography Halyna Hutchins, 42, died at University of New Mexico Hospital after being shot on the set of the movie "Rust." The movie's director, 48-year-old Joel Souza, was also shot and is in the hospital, the sheriff's office said.
Baldwin, who grew up in Massapequa, is a producer on the movie as well as an actor. The sheriff's office said a 911 caller reported a shooting on the set of the movie, which is being filmed at Bonanza Creek Ranch.
Hutchins, a native of Ukraine, was a Los Angeles-based cinematographer. She worked on the films "Archenemy," "Blindfire," and "Darlin'," according to her website.
No charges have been filed in the incident.
