Press release from MLCT: Oct. 22, 2021 The Milford Land Conservation Trust, Inc. (MLCT) has experienced an active 50th Anniversary year despite the restrictions of a pandemic and is seeking new members to support its mission of preserving Milford land in its natural state. Founded in 1971, this nonprofit all-volunteer private organization is a land steward of more than 125 acres throughout Milford from Devon to Woodmont and in-between. Many of the parcels along Gulf Pond, waterfront property along the Housatonic River, Calf Pen Creek, and Indian River are within MLCT jurisdiction. "It is important for all Milford owners to be conscious of how their actions enhance or detract from preserving the natural habitat of plants and wildlife," Joseph DeSisto Alling, Milford Land Conservation Trust president, said. "We've upped our game this year to be better neighbors by planting trees, removing invasive species, cleaning and maintaining properties and we encourage residents and businesses to do likewise." The Trust recently was bequeathed property in Woodmont, on Anchorage Drive, Carriage Drive and Old Oronoque Road. A unique crowning achievement during its anniversary year was the erection of an Osprey platform on Gulf Pond off of New Haven Avenue that attracted an Osprey couple which successfully hatched a fledgling. The Trust will hold a tree dedication in honor of past presidents, the late John Dockendorff and Steven Rogers, and Allan Wilcox, on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. at its flagship property, Nancy's Meadow, First Avenue, in Laurel Beach. The public is invited. Respectful COVID protocols will be observed. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, visit the website www.milfordctlandtrust.org or email [email protected].
