Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today: A competency hearing will determine whether a 13-year-old boy charged with shooting and killing a classmate can stand trial. Juan Saucedo Jr. is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 13-year-old Bennie Hargrove. His attorney says he takes medication for mental illness. Authorities say he should be in a treatment-based facility rather than a detention center or released to his family where he can be supervised and attend school virtually. (KRQE News 13) Bernalillo County prepared to reopen its downtown headquarters Thursday morning. This comes more than a week after a suspect shot out several windows, and caused nearly $45,000 worth of damage. Windows will probably stay boarded up for another three to four months, while the county waits for new glass to come in. (KOB) According to the latest federal data for fall 2019, there were nearly 8,300 deadly car crashes nationwide. From this data, Albuquerque is ranked as the 6th most dangerous place to drive based on the rate of fatal collisions per 100,000 residents. (KOB)City payroll records show there are 899 Albuquerque police officers. Out of the ten largest cities in the southwest Albuquerque ranks toward the bottom per capita in the number of officers on the force.
