Press release from the Summit Public Schools: 2021-10-22 Students Read Aloud to Dogs to Practice Fluency What's better than reading books? Reading books to pups from The Seeing Eye! New at Franklin Elementary this year, children have the opportunity to read to a dog each week. The children get to practice reading aloud which helps their fluency and the dogs get exposure to it all. It is a win-win!Ms. Stochaj, School Librarian, has been a volunteer with The Seeing Eye, the oldest guide dog school in the United States, for over 30 years. Currently she is raising Harry, a black lab, to be a guide dog. Each week she invites puppy raisers from her club and other friends with therapy dogs to come listen to the children read. It is a huge hit! Ms. Stochaj also works with the Summit Free Public Library with their monthly program, Books and Woofs. This press release was produced by the Summit Public Schools.
