ASHBURN, VA — A former treasurer of the Rock Ridge High School Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) was arrested last week and charged with embezzlement, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Authorities claimed the former treasurer, who police identified as Sophia Brown, embezzled more than $21,000.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into the PTSO finances in August 2020, authorities said in a report. The sheriff's office said they were "notified of a possible embezzlement by the treasurer."
In their news release, the sheriff's office did not specify who reported the embezzlement or how they learned that funds were missing.

The sheriff's office's Financial Crimes Unit completed their investigation earlier this month. "It was determined that the treasurer embezzled over $21,000," the sheriff's office said.
The treasurer, Sophia Brown, was charged with embezzlement, money laundering, and credit card fraud last week. She was originally taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, but was released the following day on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Brown's next court date is scheduled for Nov. 16.
