NEWARK, NJ — Newark authorities said two people were injured Thursday in a fire that left 10 people without a home. Newark firefighters responded to 379 Chadwick Avenue around 7:15 p.m. after getting a call about a fire on the third floor of the three-story residence. After calling a second alarm, about 70 firefighters responded to the scene, authorities said. A pair of people jumped from a window in the home to escape the fire. They were treated for injuries at University Hospital, authorities said. Authorities said 10 people were relocated after the fire. Firefighters declared the blaze under control at 8:26 p.m. The Newark Department of Public Safety's arson unit is investigating the cause and origin, authorities said Thursday evening.
