WALNUT CREEK, CA — Two San Francisco residents were arrested in Walnut Creek last weekend after a gun was brandished during a fight at a restaurant. Lauren Lopez, 21, and Joshua Miles, 20, were taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm and conspiracy to commit a crime. Police also seized a loaded Glock handgun with two extra magazines. Police say that Sunday at 5 p.m. they were called to The Cheesecake Factory on Locust Street on a report of a man with a gun. They say that Miles brandished the gun, which was registered to Lopez. Police secured the scene and searched the area. Officers found a bag hidden in a water fountain next to the table where the couple had been eating. The gun and magazines were in the purse. In a release, police emphasized that crime rates in Walnut Creek have remained consistent over the past five years. "We understand that even a few incidents can be disturbing," said Police Chief Jamie Knox. "That's why our Police Department has stepped up downtown patrols recently during weekends, increasing visibility and enhancing public safety."
