As we near the end of October, there's a plethora of activities going on for the kids, families, date night, girls night and guys night in the Austin Metro. Halloween is just around the corner, but we know it's already time to find some good trick-or-treating spots in town. Friday, Oct. 22 Pumpkin Nights In Austin Pumpkin Nights is coming to Austin this October. The Halloween-themed walking path will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at night every day in October at 10621 Pioneer Farms Drive in Austin. The path will feature a 10-foot tall Jack-o-Lanterns, the world's largest pumpkin guitar, a flying 40-foot handmade dragon, a life-size pumpkin pirate ship and more fantastic surprises built by the event's artists using over 5,000 hand-carved real and synthetic pumpkins. Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix The weekend-long fest will kickoff at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin and will stretch from Friday through Sunday for the U.S. premier Formula 1 race. Drivers will be on the track for two practice sessions on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Qualifying sessions will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday with the 56-lap race set to start at 2 p.m. Sunday. Not sure if you want to go? Here's 5 Reasons Why You Should Go. "Into the Woods" at Zach Theatre Composer Stephen Sondheim's fairytale comes to life outdoors in a contemporary, reimagined show. Reserve your seat here. The show is being hosted from Oct. 5 through Nov. 7. Williamson County Fair and Rodeo The Williamson County Fair and Rodeo is slated for kickoff Thursday, Oct. 21, and will continue through Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Williamson County Expo Center, 5350 Bill Pickett Trail, in Taylor. The event features a petting zoo, swine races, vendors and food trucks, mutton busting, live music, carnival rides, a beer and wine garden, farmers market and more. MORE ON THIS EVENT: Williamson County Fair And Rodeo To Kickoff In Late October Saturday, Oct. 23 Puptopia in Austin Puptopia 2021 will kick off Saturday, Oct. 23 at Mueller Lake Park in Austin. The festival will offer a ball pit-jumping show at the main stage, a K9 lounge, a chance for pups to relax at the SPAW, a Pawgrounds and Pupformances. Tickets start at $30 for entry. BARKtacular HOWLoween in Round Rock Dress up your four-legged friend and bring the family out to the 2nd Annual BARKtacular HOWLoween Dog Festival at Round Rock Depot on Saturday, Oct. 23. This event welcomes friendly, leashed dogs for trick or treating, costume contest, a lookalike contest, vendors and more. Entry fee includes swag items for all pup-ticipants and additional prizes for contest winners. Want to participate? Register online. Diwali Festival in Round Rock The city of Round Rock will kick off this year's Diwali Festival, known as the "celebration of light," on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Centennial Plaza, 301 W. Bagdad Avenue. The event will feature beautiful street lights, savory food, music, cultural dance, beautiful Rangoli (Sand Art) and a fashion show. Kids can learn various arts and crafts while others can partake in free Bollywood dance lessons. Vendors will display colorful arts and crafts, Indian clothing, jewelry and artists will offer Henna temporary tattoos. Drive-Thru Trunk Or Treat in Round Rock Round Rock police and fire will host a drive-thru Trunk Or Treat event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center, 2801 North Mays Street. The drive-thru event will start at Eagles Nest Street, turn on Oakmont Drive and North Mays Street before ending at the training center. Inclusive Trunk Or Treat Event For Kids In Round Rock Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department will host its 7th annual "Trunk or Treat" event from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. The free event, which is geared towards kids with special needs, will take place (rain or shine) at the Seton Williams Hospital on 201 Seton Parkway. Texas Book Festival in Austin The Texas Book Festival will kick off this year with a mix of virtual and in-person events from Oct. 23 through Oct. 31. The festival features hundreds of nationally and critically recognized adult and children's authors, exhibitors, activities, and countless opportunities to meet authors and fellow book lovers. Austin Symphony Orchestra's "Back to the Future" event The Austin Symphony has a couple of performances happening this weekend. Attendees can watch the classic film "Back to the Future" while the orchestra performs the musical score live in synch with the movie. That's happening on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Long Center's Dell Hall. Sunday, Oct. 24 Looking ahead to Sunday. The event is aimed at children aged 2-10. The orchestra is encouraging families to attend the children's concert in their costumes. Austin FC vs. Houston Dynamo Austin FC is taking on in-state rival the Houston Dynamo Sunday at 4 p.m. at Q2 Stadium. The Verde and Black are coming off of a couple losses, but the atmosphere at Q2 Stadium is always "electric." Austin band The Nightowls are set to perform at Live Oak after the game. These events are going on all-month long: Texas Pumpkin FestThe pumpkin patch in Leander will be available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Friday, Sept. 25 and will continue through Thursday, Nov. 7. The festival is located at 10930 East Crystal Falls Parkway and will be open seven days-a-week. Patrons will have the opportunity to explore more than 5 acres of pumpkins and gourds, play a variety of games, get lost in a hay maze, enjoy silly fun on the bounce slide and obstacle course, climb the top of the massive 65 ft. super slide and race to the bottom, enjoy the kiddie and tractor trains and a variety of other events and activities to enjoy. Barton Hill Farms Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze in Bastrop Barton Hills Farms, 1115 FM 969, in Bastrop will host its annual pumpkin patch and corn maze from Sept. 25 through Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. The farm offers sunflowers to pick along with pumpkins, the Hey Elon! Corn maze, live music, food, beer, apple cannons, archery and more. For more information, check out the farm's Facebook page. Scream Hollow in Smithville Considered to be one of the largest (and scariest) Halloween events in Texas, this Halloween park offers all the scary haunts near Austin. The park, located at 149 Split Rail Lane in Smithville, opened Sept. 17 and will continue through Halloween every Friday through Sunday. It features five haunted attractions, a haunted hayride, live music in the beer garden, two outdoor bars and tavern, a cafe, carnival bus with food, gift shops and more. Bat City Scaregrounds in Austin This 15-acre Halloween theme park in Austin hosts multiple haunted houses, food and general spooky, scary and horror entertainment. Bat City Scaregrounds, located at 14101 South Turnersville Road, opens to the public on Friday, Oct. 1. The park offers Vegas-style stage performances, live music, seasonal treats and eats, a giant drive-in movie screen, fire performers and more. Terror on Two Jacks Haunted House in Round Rock This haunted house, located at 7410 Two Jacks Trail, was "built on top of the grave of the Hairy Man of Brushy Creek." It offers frights every weekend from Oct. 9-31 and has a $5 admission per person. Each admission is a donation to the Round Rock Serving Center. House of Torment in Austin House of Torment is back this year to scare guests with its three new haunted attractions in Austin. The haunted house is open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the month of October.Tickets start at $19.99 for general admission and are available online for purchase. COVID-19 protocol: All guests must provide a negative COVID-19 test (in the past 72 hours) or proof of vaccination. Fatal Fear Haunted House in Austin Fatal Fear Haunted House, an immersive home haunt in Northwest Austin, is considered to be one of the most "realistic, terrifying and intense haunted houses you will experience in Austin." This year's haunted house, which is located at 3509 Cowden Drive, will be themed The Haunting of Mortis Manor and Hillside Sanitorium. Reservations are free and can be made online. Donations are encouraged at the door. Officials said 100 percent of the proceeds will be benefitting the Cups and Cones Community Foundation, helping feed families in need.
