AUSTIN, TX — An Akins Early College High School student was hospitalized Thursday after being stabbed with a knife by another student, according to district officials. Two students got into a fight around 4:05 p.m. when one of the students "injured the other with a knife," principal Tina Salazar said in a letter to parents on Thursday. The injured student was taken to the hospital and the student with the knife was taken into custody. AISD Chief of Police Ashley Gonzalez tweeted Thursday the district police responded to the incident and said the school was safe afterwards. Live in Austin? "Austin ISD takes violence of any kind very seriously. Fighting or weapons at school are not tolerated and will be dealt with immediately," Salazar said. Salazar said the district encourages the community to report fights or threatening behavior of any kind to Austin ISD police at 512-414-1703 so they may investigate or contact the school at 512- 841-9900. Austin ISD police said more officers were on patrol at Akins High School Thursday night after the department received reports of a threat on social media – one that has gone around nationwide with the school's name and date change. Officers said the threat is not tied to Thursday's stabbing.
