PALM DESERT, CA — A Palm Desert High School student who allegedly posted TikTok video of himself damaging campus property and threatening violence against a peace officer is being held in Juvenile Hall. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, on Wednesday a Palm Desert High School Resource Deputy was told about the video and an investigation was launched. The deputy, Desert Sands Unified School District officials and Palm Desert High School administrators worked to maintain campus safety prior to school opening, according to the sheriff's department. The student was arrested before entering the campus and was booked into Juvenile Hall, where he was being held pending a court hearing, the sheriff's department said. The student's identity is not being released. At no time during the investigation were students in imminent danger, according to the sheriff's department. "The School Resource Deputy and School Administration take every crime, rumor and actual or presumed threat seriously," the sheriff's department said. "We would like to remind parents to please discuss social media use with their school-age children. There could be lasting criminal consequences resulting from threatening and illicit posts. Contrary to common belief, many of these communications are trackable, retrievable, and verifiable."
