PACIFICA, CA — A major crash shut down both directions of Highway 1 near Pedro Point on Thursday morning, according to the Pacifica Police Department and California Highway Patrol. An SUV collided head-on with a garbage truck and one of the vehicles was leaking gas, according to preliminary CHP reports. The incident took place shortly after 11 a.m. Both lanes of Highway 1 reopened around 2:30 p.m., according to the CHP. A picture from the scene tweeted out by the North County Fire Authority shows a badly-damaged white SUV and a compost truck with damage to the front. Patients were transported to a local hospital, according to the fire authority. NCFA crews are at the scene of a two vehicle traffic collision. Patients have been transported to a local area hospital.
