Pottstown NAACP Sends Students To Historically Black Colleges

POTTSTOWN, PA — Pottstown High School's guidance department got assistance in helping students visit historically black colleges as they explore options. Taking students on college tours to look at their educational options is a part of the Pottstown High School Guidance Department's efforts to prepare students for success. Trips are planned to schools in several states and include visits to historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), the School District said. Recently those efforts received financial support from the Pottstown chapter of the NAACP and a matching donation of $700 from Pottstown High School graduate and former Pottstown school board member Emanuel Wilkerson. "We are happy to invest in the future of young lives and look forward to students returning to our community to play a positive role in the success of Pottstown. I am proud to make this donation on behalf of the NAACP and the class of 2016 in honor of former school counselor Charlene Johnson and teachers Michaela Johnson and Na'imah Rhode," Wilkerson said. School Counselor Kelly Leibold said the donation helps make it possible for students to visit college campuses and gain first-hand experience that will assist them in selecting a school best suited for them.
