MILL VALLEY, CA — A period piece depicting turbulent life in Northern Ireland in the 1960s grabbed top honors at the 44th Mill Valley Film Festival. "Belfast," the mostly black-and-white film semi-autobiographical written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, took the prestigious event's award as the Overall Audience Favorite. The film depicts life amid ethnic conflict in The Troubles in Belfast through the lens of a working family and their young son. The 11-day festival concluded Sunday. "Belfast" was among eight Audience Favorite award winners that were announced Tuesday.
