Elmhurst Trolley May Return For Holidays

ELMHURST, IL — After a pandemic-related hiatus, the Explore Elmhurst Express Trolley is poised to return for the holidays. On Thursday, the city administration released a plan for the trolley program. It proposed to run the service 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for four Saturdays starting Nov. 27. According to a city memo, the trolley will connect three business districts in Elmhurst. It is set to make six stops within a 30-minute loop, as it has before. "The goal of this program is to create an iconic service in Elmhurst that attracts potential consumers to the main shopping districts, while offering incentives and experiences," the memo said. Typically, the trolley has a presence throughout the year, with the majority of activity during the summer. The six stops are at York and Park, York and Schiller, Second and Addison, Cottage Hill and Virginia, Spring and the Illinois Prairie Path, and York and Vallette. The memo said the city would add incentives to the program to enhance the rider's experience. For instance, it would include a sweepstakes program, where riders can enter to win prizes while on the trolley. Riders will also be able to track the trolley using a GPS tracker embedded into a city website, according to the memo. The City Council is expected to vote on whether to bring back the trolley. It would cost $13,000, the memo said.
