Equine Castration Clinic
Castrations will be performed by third year veterinary students under the direct supervision of board certified faculty veterinarians from the OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital. Owners will be contacted prior to surgery date to confirm participation.
There is no charge for the castration, however, costs associated with complications occurring due to the inherent risk of the procedure are the owners responsibility.
A limited number of tickets available for the following :
Event date: Nov. 20 at 10 a.m.
Requirements:
Eligible horses, donkeys or ponies for field castrations must be halter broke to safely lead on halter and easily handled.
Preferred age range: 1 months to 8 years (Please email us if you have an older horse).
Registration is limited to 2 horses per owner. If you have more than 2 horses please contact us.
Both testicles must be visibly descended. No cryptorchids.Current Coggins Test (within one year)Need to be trailered to/from CVM the day of procedureHorse will receive:
Tetanus protectionProcaine PenicillinAnesthesiaPain/anti-inflammatory medicationAny complications resulting from the inherent risk of castration will be at owner's expense.
All animals will need to be dropped off at OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital (large animal entrance) by 10 a.m.
Space is limited so early registration is recommended.
