Description

Join us on Tues November 2nd to celebrate Moments through Movement As we mark a division of the year between the end of harvest season (the lighter half) and the beginning of winter (the darker half) — SOMSIREN presents a special event to embrace traditions and release the ancestral traumas we carry. We will open the event with a mediation and body movement workshop lead by MUDA at 7pm followed by a live music set by VANIA.  This event aims to target, awaken, and reconnect our bodies through meditation, movement, and music. Starting by honoring those we have lost by celebrating a memory — and ending the workshop with a burning ceremony to release unwanted habits or trauma. No questions of belonging, only validations of love, protection and power as we connect participants on Día de los Muertos. Please bring your own yoga mat and/or blanket, pillow. Along with sneakers, to make yourselves comfortable throughout the workshop. Covid safety precautions will be put in place, so please wear your masks during the event. RSVP required to attend event. WORKSHOP. MUDA MUDA is a movement company with an emphasis on merging choreography, documentary filmmaking, floral design and performance art. MUDA is two first-generation American women of color. Danielle Yasuda is a multifaceted choreographer, botanical artist, and designer. Maritza Navarro is a choreographer, director, and producer. As MUDA, they create multimedia dance work that presents diverse and inclusive stories that highlight mental health, questions of identity, and family themes, specifically the generational impact of immigration and racism. MUDA movement is based around the concept of capturing an emotion or a story through the body. Embodiment. MUDA creates work that seeks to bridge the gap between audiences and conversations about difficult subjects. MUSIC. VANIA VANIA is a Peruvian-born songbird. It all started with VANIA and her guitar. She was the 10-year-old girl who would use the living room as her stage to perform early 2000's pop songs for her parents, though she didn't speak a word of English. Over the years, she has found her sound inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, SZA, and Lianne La Havas. VANIA combines lush vocal harmonies and crisp organic production to become a fresh new voice in Alternative R&B. In addition to her being a vocalist, she’s a songwriter and producer, who is happiest when she’s collaborating with other artists and creating musical worlds to escape to. Throughout the course of her career, her goal has always been, and will always be, to show little brown girls around the world that they can do anything. WHO WE ARE. SOMSIREN was born out of PASSION and a need for COMMUNITY. Started in 2017, the MUSIC SERIES began as a way to ENGAGE with and SUPPORT talented artists while cultivating a STRONG and RECOGNIZABLE aesthetic. It has since grown to be an ARTIST SHOWCASE. An offering of WEEKLY, curated PLAYLISTS, ART and ARTIST spotlights, and a catalyst for INTIMATE EVENTS. While the brand has grown, MUSIC is always at the CORE of everything SOMSIREN does. It is the LENS through which SOMSIREN explores the world. Combining the ACOUSTIC with the VISUAL, the BODY with SOUND, the SPIRITUAL with the SONIC – rooting all experience in SOUND.
