Relocating to Florida in 1992, she discovered the “Swedish” mutation, which has been used in innumerable laboratory models of Alzheimer’s Disease world-wide. In 2003, Dr. Crawford co-founded Sarasota’s Roskamp Institute, which has since grown into a stand-alone research laboratory and clinic which is home to a staff of more than 60 scientists, clinicians, graduate students, and research assistants. Dr. Crawford’s research programs are funded by the Veterans’ Administration, the Department of Defense, and the National Institutes of Health, and she has published over 200 peer reviewed research papers. Meg Lowman, Ph.D. Meg Lowman, called the “real-life Lorax” by National Geographic and the “Einstein of the treetops” by Wall Street Journal, is an author, explorer, scientist, arbornaut (translation: treetop explorer!), mom, and change-agent for conservation. She has devoted more than four decades to exploration and research on treetop secrets, as a global pioneer of canopy science and public science communication. Meg also directs the TREE Foundation, which built the Myakka River State Park canopy walkway, and her recent projects include creating a UNESCO world heritage forest site in Malaysia and partnering with Ethiopia’s Coptic priests to save the remaining church forests. Elizabeth Moore Elizabeth Moore is an ardent land and nature conservationist, working to educate about and save our natural ecosystems locally and internationally. She is a passionate supporter of the transition to a regenerative economy that protects people and the planet. Deeply involved in local organizations that work to safeguard the environment, Elizabeth serves on the boards of the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, Lemur Conservation Foundation, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, Florida House Institute and Tree Foundation where she is currently president of the board. Elizabeth also became a cattle rancher when she purchased Triangle Ranch in 2016 to conserve 1,100 acres of land in the Upper Myakka River watershed. The innovative purchase demonstrated that saving precious ecosystems can take place alongside commercial viability. COVID-19 EVENT PROTOCOLPlease note the following COVID-19 event protocol.
