FARMINGDALE, NY — Candy's Jewelers is set to celebrate its fifth year in Farmingdale Village with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The ceremony is set to begin at noon at 225 Main St. "And it's not just a celebration of five years, it's a shining example of how small business through hard work, dedication and excellent customer service; can still flourish!" a news release from Farmingdale Village states. "Consider how many Bride and Grooms have begun their Big Day THERE!" Candy's Jewelers has been family-owned and operated since 1917 and is now celebrating the legacy of a third-generation family jewelry business. In 2016, Candy relocated to Farmingdale and has immersed herself in the village. Candy's Jewelers began in 1917 when Angelina DeVodier started a pearl and bead stringing business at 87 Nassau St., in lower Manhattan's original jewelry district. In 1962, her son, Roger DeVodier, joined her as a jeweler and rapidly expanded the company into a full-service jewelry trade shop. In 1977, DeVodier Enterprises was moved to a large trade shop in Bellmore where Candice DeVodier apprenticed under her father. In 1983, the business moved to a new showroom in Seaford and opened to the public as Candy's Jewelers. Candice moved to Farmingdale Village amid the revitalization of the community's downtown.
