BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline residents have stepped in to help Mutual Aid Brookline, a local emergency services and resources agency, continue to provide grocery gift cards to those who are struggling to put food on their tables. According to a GoFundMe page set up by MAB when they recently had to pause their grocery gift card program due to a lack of funds, community members have donated over $8,000 of the $12,500 fundraising goal in just five days. "Our requests have doubled since mid-September and we can barely keep up," says the GoFundMe page, pointing to the recent end of CARES Act unemployment benefits as the cause. "Mutual Aid Brookline services are IN ADDITION to the Brookline Food Pantry and the recent Farmers Market one-time voucher program. A couple weeks ago MAB paid out more in subsidized groceries and grocery gift cards in one week than EVER BEFORE." "The need is not diminishing, it has doubled," it continues. MAB's goal is $12,500 because that amount would allow the grocery gift card program to continue for another month as requests for help skyrocket. "Please help us sustain this service and keep food on everyone's tables," said MAB. "Thank you for sharing your resources across Brookline."
