Description

MILFORD, CT — Democrat Una Petroske is running for the Board of Education in Milford. Occupation: Vp Technology Family: My son, Quinn, was born and raised in Milford. Experience: Board of Education Family in government: No The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: Recovering from the pandemic and finding our new "normal" is currently the most pressing issue in Milford and, frankly, across the globe. From an educational standpoint, this has meant getting back into schools full-time and employing accelerated learning techniques, while considering the health and safety of our students and staff. As a member of the Board of Education, supporting the High Quality Instructional model, and professional development for our adult learners and the social-emotional needs of our students are some of the ways I have been able to facilitate this process. Critical differences between me and my opponents: I have been a contributing member of the Milford community for many years - as an editor for the 350th Anniversary book, working with the Milford Volunteer Corps, and Milford Duck Race Committee and the Milford Board of Education are some examples. Accomplishments: As a member of the Milford Board of Education since 2018, I have been privileged to serve the initiatives implemented to further improve the education of our young people. During my tenure, the Milford Public Schools has, among other things, introduced the 1:1 Chromebook initiative, and which became critical for remote learning; started World Language education in grades 1 & 2; installed and staffed science labs in all of our elementary schools; introduced state of the art teaching methods including High Quality Instruction supporting the Vision of the Learner based upon a Relationship framework; and created a strong instructional supervisory structure along with improved professional development program to support our teachers and staff. All of this has been accomplished within agreed upon budgetary constraints. Other issues: I am a strong proponent of continued improvement in our schools to best prepare all of our young people to thrive in our fast-changing world – regardless of what career paths they choose. What else would you like voters to know about you? I am very passionate Milford's education system and hope to continue to support the current administration as a member of the Milford Board of Education.
