AUSTIN, TX — Austin's oldest hotel has been named the most haunted spot in Texas, according to a recent ranking by the popular review site Yelp!. The Driskill hotel, which is located in the heart of downtown Austin, ranked in the No. 1 spot on Yelp's top 20 haunted places in Texas. To create the ranking, employees looked at reviews and other data by first identifying businesses in the restaurant, food, travel and arts categories with a large concentration of reviews mentioning relevant keywords. Those spots were then ranked using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning those keywords, according to Yelp. Haunted houses and ghost tours were not considered in the ranking. Other Austin spots like the Driskill Bar, Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill and Clay Pit also made it in the top 10. But the Driskill is also known to have a haunted past. Ghosts that have been spotted throughout the hotel's grand hallways and rooms include those of original owner and cattle baron Jesse Driskill, a jilted bride, and a young girl.
