Description
HOBOKEN, NJ — Fans of Hoboken's sweet uptown family-owned bakery, Giorgio's, will be able to get their beloved Italian cookies, cakes, and pies for only a few more weeks.
A sign in the window says the beloved pastry shop — which opened in 1974 — will close Sunday, Nov. 7.
The family has had the building at 11th and Washington streets for sale for $2.5 million some time. Its real estate listing says it's no longer available.
Family patriarch Giorgio Castillo, who could often be seen working at the store, passed away in 2019. His daughter Mary Grace Castiello kept working at the counter.
The store is among the last family-owned bakeries in Hoboken, a group that also includes Carlo's City Hall Bakery 11 blocks south — made famous by the "Cake Boss" TV show.
Giorgio's is located at 1112 Washington St.
In 2019 it was among those given a "this place matters" designation by Hoboken's Historic Preservation Commission.
