Press release from the Bucks County Free Library: October 20, 2021 The changing of the leaves reminds us that the seasons are changing. The leaves begin to fall, the nights become cooler, and most importantly, all our favorite coffee spots start to offer our favorite drink: the Pumpkin Spiced Latte. This tradition is quite new and dates to 2003 when Starbucks released the first Pumpkin Spiced Latte into the world. Starbucks noticed success around their winter-themed beverage, Peppermint Mocha, and realized there was no specialty coffee for autumn. Starting in January 2003, they spent the next few months developing the recipe that was then released in cafes in Vancouver and Seattle. From that day on, Pumpkin Spice became an autumn classic. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes are quite simple to make. All they require are espresso (or bold coffee), milk (or milk alternative), sugar, and lots of pumpkin spice which consists of a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.
