PLAINFIELD, IL — A local resident heard a "panicked" dog bark early Monday morning and went out to investigate. When she got out there, near the intersection of 135th Street and Naperville Road, she spotted a coyote. "I saw a pair of shining eyes, again. It was a coyote," Tammy wrote in a post on Patch. "I didn't see the dog but I could hear it as if it were moving away." This isn't the first time she has encountered coyotes in the area. She spotted three of them outside her home last summer and again in the winter. Commander Anthony Novak from the Plainfield Police Department told Patch Wednesday they have received a few calls about coyotes recently but "not an overabundant amount." The department said that residents shouldn't call the police if a coyote is not aggressive toward humans or their pets. Though the animal is nocturnal, it's not uncommon to see them during the day. Novak also shared a few tips should residents come across the wild animal. Do not feed coyotes.Walk pets on a leash.Secure garbage containers.Accompany pets when you let them outside.
