BUCKS COUNTY, PA – A Bucks County couple that skipped out of their trial on charges they had abused and severely neglected the health of four of their six children have been taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. Six days after Christine Dunkowski, 47, was arrested at a Delaware hotel, her husband – Albert Dunkowski, 54, was taken into custody Thursday, officials said. Albert Dunkowski was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at a bus stop in Elkton, Maryland. Both arrests were made without incident, officials said. The couple was wanted on a warrant for Flight to Avoid Prosecution and Default in Required Appearance. Parents Convicted In Worst Neglect Doctor Has Seen: DA A pediatric emergency room physician had previously testified that the children showed signs of severe neglect and abuse, and called it one of the worst cases he's ever seen. The doctor said all four of the children in the vehicle were suffering from severe malnutrition and were soaked in urine and wearing diapers that had not been changed in a long time, including a 9-year-old boy. Police said the two neglected the needs of four of their six children when they were found malnourished and sickly, sleeping in a car at the Woodebourne train station in August 2019, when the family was said to be living in nearby woods. The couple was there for the opening part of their trial, but was not present for closing arguments or for jury deliberations. The apprehensions were a result of a joint investigation including U.S. Marshal's Offices in Eastern Pennsylvania, the District of Delaware, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, officials said. "Crimes against children loom at the forefront of human tragedy," Eric Gartner, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said in a news release. "We immensely appreciate the opportunity to support Bucks County (district attorney) Matt Weintraub and the Bucks County Detectives' always diligent efforts to identify, capture and prosecute those that perpetrate such heinous crimes."
