Launch Pumpkins, Craft Skulls, More At DuPage Children's Museum

NAPERVILLE, IL — Kids can launch pumpkins into the air via self-styled catapults, craft clay skulls and play in piles of leaves at Pumpkin Palooza, set for Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at DuPage Children's Museum. The festivities will be held at the museum parking lot and inside the building as well. Outdoors, pumpkin seeds and guts give kids a chance to make slime with the help of museum staff members. Other science experiments include building a catapult to fling pumpkins and pinecones across the parking lot. Artist Norma Rios-Sierra will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to teach kids how to make skulls from clay while supplies last. Rios-Sierra, who graduated from Columbia College in 2009, creates stained-glass art adorned with Mexican imagery. Inside the museum, fall-themed activities include using acorns to make patterns, making wearable art and raking and jumping in piles of leaves. A pumpkin bucket toss and music from Bach to Rock Naperville round out the frightful fun. "Pumpkin Palooza is a treat for the whole family. This event engages visitors in creative, not-so-scary experiences that explore S.T.E.A.M. concepts through hands-on play," DuPage Children's Museum Public Programs Manager Chris Berg said in a statement. Tickets to Pumpkin Palooza are $15 for adults and children who are age one or older. Seniors who are 59 and older get in for $14.
