LEVITTOWN, PA – A shuttered Shell gas station that has sat empty at an active Falls Township intersection will be renovated into a car wash after the Fort Township Board of Supervisors approved plans for the renovation earlier this week. The property, which is located at 8601 New Falls Road, is owned by Levittown Car Wash, LLC, which was seeking approval from the board for development of the site. Plans for the site call for the existing car wash at the station to be preserved and for a 1,289-square foot addition to be built along with parking and driveway improvements, the township announced. The current 861-square foot convenience store and four gas pumps would be removed, according to the plan and replaced by an employee office and four vacuum stations under the property's existing 1,719-square foot canopy. Township officials did not provide a timeline of when the carwash will open. Once opened, however, the site will restrict access onto Hood Boulevard during peak commuting hours, the township said. The owners of the site expect the business's peak times to be around the lunch hour and the owners are working with PennDOT to offer a one-way circulating pattern for traffic in and out of the property. Supervisor John Palmer told fellow board members that it was time for the site to be redeveloped. "It was an eyesore," he said at Monday's meeting. The Board on Monday also reviewed a sketch plan for B&J Warehouse, which is located at 1001 New Ford Mill Rd., which sits on a portion of the U.S. Steel property. The board did not take action as the developer of the site has not yet submitted plans. The company, which operates a 178,000 square foot warehouse at the site now, is looking to build three separate additions totaling 56,000 square feet, the township said. The new space would also be used for warehouse purposes. The township said that the company plans to reappear before the board in early 2022 after it meets with the township zoning board.
