Description

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge used to post the videos of its Village Board meetings within a couple of days. But in July, it began releasing its videos on YouTube weeks later, despite the fact that it livestreams the sessions. These days, the village typically posts its meeting videos on the day of the next meeting, which is usually two weeks later. However, for the Aug. 23 meeting, the village took more than three weeks to post it. In September, Patch filed a public records request during a meeting for the video of that event. The village was required to respond within five business days with the material requested or notice of an extension. The village sought an extension, then released it on the day of the next meeting. Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso couldn't be reached for immediate comment about the issue. Burr Ridge is not required to take video of its meetings. But the village, like its neighbors, chooses to film them to keep residents informed. Indian Head Park, Western Springs, Darien, La Grange and Hinsdale are among the area towns that provide their meeting videos immediately or within the next day. The change in Burr Ridge's practice on videos may be the result of the departure of key employees earlier in the summer. The vacancies particularly impacted the village's communications with the public.
