UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — After a nearly two-year closure due to the pandemic, Levain is reopening its flagship Upper West Side location on Nov. 6. The storefront sits at 167 West 74th Street on Amsterdam Avenue. The Nov. 6 date was selected so the popular bakery could be reopened in time for the New York City Marathon on Nov. 7 and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade later in the month. The Levain flagship will reopen on the day at 8 a.m. The first 200 marathon runners to bring their bib to the 400-square-foot bakery will receive a free cookie of their choice. Founders Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald actually first created their iconic cookies while training for a triathlon. Levain also has a location at Amsterdam Avenue and West 77th Street, but the popular bakery first opened its doors on West 74th Street in 1995. The pandemic closure was the first time the original Levain location has been shuttered for more than a few days at a time. The bakery has now opened locations in NoHo, Harlem, the Upper East Side, Williamsburg, D.C., and Maryland.
