Custodial Services Coordinator Southern Oregon University Position Number: C00308 Rate: $3,235/month Position Summary: The Facilities Management, Planning, and Sustainability Department (FMP) administers custodial services, building maintenance, utilities operations, landscape services, capital construction, mail and delivery services, sustainability operations, and environmental safety services for the benefit of administration and academic areas of the campus community. The SOU campus includes 175 acres of grounds, 140 of which are under active use and maintenance. Facilities Services maintains 21 major buildings comprising over one million square feet of space. The department is staffed by approximately 53 full time personnel and is responsible for approximately 9% of the total campus budget. The Custodial Coordinator assists the Custodial Supervisor in the operations of the custodial department. This position will serve as the lead person for the special projects / substitute crew during the swing shift. The position will work as lead of a team of four custodians who work the swing shift (4:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.). This person works independently and oversees the cleaning of buildings assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Oregon Driver’s License, Good driving record Valid Oregon Driver’s License, Good driving record Two years of experience in custodial services work. Preferred Qualification: 1 year supervisory experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner. • Ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds. • Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of levels within the organization. • Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures. Special Conditions •Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development. •Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis. •Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check. •This position classification has been defined as “non-exempt” and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). •The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the Oregon Revised Statues and is required to comply with the requirements set forth by the Oregon department of Human Services. Work Conditions •Ability to work with a flexible schedule. •Must be willing to travel and work at various sites. •Ability to work safely in an environment containing potentially hazardous electrical equipment, fumes, vapor, gases, and/or materials.
